On first run, before anything happens, our script shows a setup screen where the user chooses between two modes: 3.1, which uses server-side processing, and Legacy, which runs entirely on-device. Both paths are visible in the code, and the mode is chosen by the user.
Selecting 3.1 does not transmit anything on its own. Your Duolingo session token is only sent when you actively use a 3.1 function: you have to enter a number into an input and click the get button while in 3.1 mode. Simply having 3.1 active, without using those functions, sends nothing. In Legacy mode the token never leaves your device. Nothing is sent automatically or without explicit user interaction.
3.1 is offered because server-side processing delivers much faster and more consistent results. Some rewards can't be reliably completed on-device. Legacy keeps everything local but is slower and more limited. The onboarding screen (shown here: https://ibb.co/nq36BGL5), which appears before the user can use the script, states this distinction up front, and switching from 3.1 back to Legacy is possible at any time with a single toggle that is always visible on the main pages.
I'm also happy to make this explicit in the listing description, such as "The fastest Duolingo XP farmer; choose on-device or server-side processing. Working as of August 2026." once reinstated so the behavior is clear before install.
