All-in-one solutions for manga are not perfect:

  • Public APIs are often slow (e.g., cotrans.touhou.ai) due to server overload and long queues, and many browser extension like ismanga-Manga Translator work but are costly/limited.

So, In this userscript "Jp Manga Translator" use a pipeline text detection>OCR>translation; Currently, to achieve best solution is to run a separate server (optional):

  • Fast (~2s): GPU~6GB VRAM (5min boot-up) server Python for fast OCR using YOLO → MangaOCR → mBART. (not sure how to run server python .py? use .exe instead: download mirror 1 ,2,3, 4, 5)
  • Or for accessibility: Gemini API performs OK but struggles with many bubbles. Free api iwanhae.kr is convenient but poorly accurate.
  • Decent (~7s): Current browser-only by default solution uses CTD → MangaOCR → Google Translate/MyMemory.
