DeviantArt deownloads you a .rmskin file with that link, no? so it's not broken, the author just put not-an-image onto that link instead of an image
and twitter photos needs to be opened in a new tab (middle click) to work, perhaps that is the case? your link works for me

Ah, I think I see the issue now with DA. On the first page load, the extension actually doesn't load. On a refresh, it loads in and tries to download/display the non-image filetype, which causes the issue. This now seems like something separate to report now if the extension is supposed to load in on first click...and also since every other page nav from there requires a refresh to fix the display.
When I compare it to another link (https://www.deviantart.com/marcopixel/art/Lano-Visualizer-Highly-configurable-visualizer-545915953), this one doesn't error on a refresh since I don't think it is publicly available for download. This seems to be working as intended then, but is it too much work to ask for a global filetype exclusion list for non-images?
For Twitter, I am able to repro it still. The first link was a direct link to a post but I've since been able to get the same issue with any image in my feed, ex. https://twitter.com/Wario64/status/1691816070422614159 > middle-click on image in the post.

extension only loads on specific urls, e.g. on images.com/image/* but not on whole images.com to not break the whole website and deviant art doesn't change any urls, it just fakes that it did, unless you open a link in a new tab or you can disable javascript for deviantart so it will open all links normally - but you will lose javascript on the whole website

that would be inclusion, not exclusion, because you can't exclude millions of other filetypes which are not images, also sometimes images are shown without any extension at all
Middle clicking your twitter link works fine for me and fullsizes the image both in firefox and chrome, check that other extensions aren't interfering perhaps
This script seems to be broken on DeviantArt and on Twitter images (this seems to be working 50/50 for me since some images do work). Posting some examples below:
