In some cases that's Chrome aggressively preventing redirect traps.

Userscript authors routinely want options that are excluded from normal Javascript for very good reasons. (Identifying visited links, for example.) This sort of bug is a lateral thinking puzzle in search of solutions that have not been abused for profit.
I still don't have a good solution. There may not be one, directly.
If you're having this problem regularly you could try Handy Image, which IIRC uses an overlay instead of redirecting.
