Yes, that's a voluntary behaviour, as described in the change log. I'll disable it by default then, as I imagine not everybody wants this (for some reason).

That's done on purpose. Why would you leave the tab open once the friendship request has been sent?
The "some cases" you are talking about are these conditions:
- Tab has been opened in the background
- Tab hasn't been focused in the first 250ms of loading
- No friendship had been previously sent to that user

since the latest version, if i open a video in ' a new tab', it automatically sends a friend request to the owner of the video and forwards me to their profile.
